Hi Chris, how was Ardent on friday night?
I am pretty new to racing, especially racing M-chassis cars, and certainly don't want to tread on anybody's toes or come across as a "know it all", but here are my views on Minis: 1) Good car for both beginers and professionals as they are a forgiving car to drive, but a hard one to drive well, particularly with faster motors. The fact that Tamiya have been selling M03s for so long and there is still split opinion as to whether the M05 is an improvement speaks volume. How can you improve on perfection? 2) They can't handle fast motors as theit is impossible the power down. After several hours at Ardent, I have got mine to work well with a 13.5T brushless, but that is with the timing and acceleration set to a minimum. It probably isn't any faster than if it had the tamiya black can motor. If fast motors were allowed I think most drivers will still use stock motors since the minis work best with them. 3) Oil shocks - they clearly make a difference in touring cars (I remember how much my TT01 bounced around corners with the friction dampers). Do they make enough difference in minis to make the race less fair/fun? As I have already said, I am no expert on the minis in any way and I have formed these opinions through 8 hours of track practice at Ardent and through talking to other club members. I hope to race my M05 on friday (sorry Charlie, i promise to keep out you way!!!!). I do like Lloyd's idea of using the jumps. See you all next friday |
