Question Shock Questions: Silicone O-rings and Pick the Best Shock

Ok, first question is something that has bugged me for years. Someone out there has to be smarter than me and knows the answer.

We all know that silicone shock oil swells silicone rubber O-rings, yet everyone continues to use those cheap red silicone O-rings in their shocks with every manufacturer's re-bottled silicone shock oil. Why do we continue to hit our finger with a hammer when we know it hurts?

How hard can it be to use Viton O-rings or a compound that is resistant to oils and chemicals? Seems like a simple thing that should have been fixed many years ago, yet we continue to complain about O-rings swelling in shocks. There has to be a better solution. IIRC, those blue MIP O-rings were awesome, and now seem to be impossible to find. Seems like a cheap fix for more consistent shock performance.

Next, if you had a blank check, and weren't tied to any specific brand for your racing kit, what shocks would you use on a 2wd car, and why? Kyosho? Tamiya? Losi? Durango? Hotbodies? Put the BEST shocks on a car in terms of quality, performance and maintenance.
