Default Starting up RC again in 10th offroad

Hi,
I did a couple meetings with a 1/8th rallycross car before the money ran out just under 2 years ago so i have most of the basics down ok, and although trying to avoid the usual "wich ones am betterest???" threads, i could use some advice on all this electronic trickery stuff that apparently doesn't accept fuel or make a nice smell and noise?

Looking at a 2wd atm really due to my sideways tendancies, hate of understeer and love of steering with the rear and starting to settle on a B4 after talking to a couple of people about it (Thanks Paul ) but I'd like a few peoples input on a decent motor/ESC/battery setup on a budget (partly so I can stop bugging the one or two people I have been about it) motor wise i'm looking at a venom fireball 19t atm as a couple of people have had them and said they were ok motors for the money and lasted out alright and gave a fair amount of power.

ESC i'm totally lost on really, am i right in thinking that reverse speedos aren't allowed at most events? Is it something that is a highly integral very important part of your setup or can it be used a cost cutter on a budget with little performance change? I'm guessing it's a good idea to get one with a limit lower (higher? faster anyway ) than 12turn.

Battery wise i was advised to pick up enough for 3 packs, which pretty much leaves me with sanyo 3000 Mah cells for my money (unless i can up the budget somewhere or cut it on something else) is it possible to run a days racing on two batteries? that way I could get 2 GP3300 packs (which i'm told are awesome batteries ) and pick up an extra later

Sorry for the essay and thanks for any help you can give
