Default Brushed motors, tricks and tips for rebuilding etc..

Maybe Im a little behind the times when it comes to servicing my V2 motors.I dont own a lathe and can only guess what would be the best method of servicing/cleaning motors.Up until now I would run a motor directly from a 7.2volt battery in a jar of 'ZIPPO' lighter fluid to clean the motor for around 10 seconds. Is this bad? With the motor still runing I pull it from the jar and let it run for another 10 seconds then disconnect the power.I think this does a reasonably good job of cleaning motors but I wanted to be sure that this method isnt damaging the motor in any way.Ofcourse once the motor has dried out I re oil the bearings with machine oil.My local hobby shops dont even stock shock oil let alone cans of motor cleaner. Can anyone please give me some good advise or even direct me to a link for motor maintanance etc... Thankyou-Jason.
