This is what happens when a Top Gear stunt doesn't go to plan
![]() Image © Geoff Robinson Top Gear's stunts are almost as famous for their accidents as they are for creating side-splitting TV moments. Richard Hammond's well-documented near-death jet car crash is, of course, the most serious to befall the crew so far. Now it's the turn of James May, who has reportedly been involved in a dramatic airship crash. The stunt being filmed for the new series seems to have involved May in a caravan suspended beneath a balloon racing Hammond in a Lamborghini. May - a qualified pilot - was attempting to land on a cricket pitch. The filming was taking place in the Cambridgeshire village of Eltisley when wind blew May's airship off course and into trees. May, his caravan and crew ended up in a farmer's field close to a main road. True to his nickname of Captain Slow the whole incident took place at very slow speed and nobody involved was hurt, the helicopter filming the sequence reporting that everyone was OK as emergency services stood down.
