Small external diff shims

I am in the process of building up the diff on my XXX CR and noticed Losi inserted an addendum to the instructions in the parts bag regarding the use of the small external shims on the outsdrives. I have built up the diff using the bronze shims internally. Is it necessary to use the smaller external shims as well? It seems as if they should be used in conjunction with the bronze internal shims. I have to admit I'm a little confused. I also did not get any clear diff grease in my kit!! You can guess what I'm cleaning off and re-building tonight!!
