Default 6-gear idle gear blues... can the RC10 tranny be beefed up?

It's getting a bit ridiculous how often I seem to be chowing through idle gears on the RC10. I've been running it at Eden Park quite a bit recently, and the jumps and transitions just seem too much for it.. No slipper, of course...

I've destroyed no less than 4 idle gears in the last few months - and though I've got a small stash of them saved up - I'd much rather keep 'em in one piece...

Can much be done to improve the reliability of th 6-gear?

Should I just run the diff looser and have it work a bit like a slipper? (!)

I've kicked around the idea of modifying some old outdrives to use as idle gears - but haven't gotten round to engineering that yet. Is that something anyone's done? Ideas?

I know that I could just drill some holes and throw in a stealth box and solve all the issues - but that's just not the answer I'm looking for... it's the heart of the car!

Thanks for the suggestions!
