The new banners at the top of this and most other main pages, among others, are there to inform about site news (such as the Euros report) and also for commercial advertisers.
The commercial advertisers banners are weighted differently as you might of noticed and appear more frequently than others. These help in a small way to run the site and cost 'ASK' per month and link directly to your site.
