Cutting the shell is an option but will damage the fan if you roll, not sure about the nosram speedo's but with the novak GTB's people take the fan off and put it next to the ESC on the chassis. I personally dont run a fan with a 6.5 motor but its up to you.
I think 6.5 is equivelent to 11t brushed, feels about that anyway. Sorry, cant help on the setup for that track. HTH anyway ![]()

You can take the fan off the top and put it on its side facing the speedo thats what most people do or they just take the fan off totally but personally i'd put it on its side next to the speedo

We run our B4's with LRP Sphere Comp speedos which are (I fink) the LRP branded version of the Nosram Matrix and they have no fans. Motors are 7.5T Vector's and we've only ever had one thermal cut caused by pulling too high a pinion and running for about 15 minutes non-stop.

I have the fan for my Matrix on it's side on the chassis in front of the speedo, no problems as yet, nowhere near the thermal limit (about 17 flashes on a bonded motor, 19 with sintered)

Also if you plan on racing regional or nationals having the fan protruding outside of the bodyshell is illegal with out some sort of cover over it as your not aloud moving objects to protrude outside of the bodyshell.

The standard nosrams dont come with the heatsink and fan. The TC spec fan is a necessity for TC's where 4.5's are common place. Unless its a tight track on an uber hot day you should be ok with out the fan in 2wd. You probabaly want to keep that speedo in your 4wd though because in 4wd the fan is much more important and on the Nosram I think the fan is hardwired on a very short cable so can only be removed by chopping the wires.... no biggie but might invalidate any warranty.

You dont even need a fan in 4wd i run a 6.5 on my normal nosram matrix evo no fan harldy even gets warm on a very tight and twisty track.

Just to verify, if i remember correctly the nosram matrix comes with a heatsink as standard.. mine did!
I too run a 6.5 sintered in the hbd4 with no fan or extra cooling aids and it always lasts perfect. |

There are two versions of the speedo - The Matrix Evo(NR90700) which has a normal top plate and comes with an optional heatsink in the box, and the Matrix ISTC (NR90750) which is supplied with a heatsink and fan installed. You can also get the Worlds Option Kit (NR92600) for the Matrix Evo which contains a heatsink similar to the one supplied with the ISTC speedo along with a fan.

Hi Ade,
When I tested my B4 with the Matix, after you left, it got a little warm but I was running a 24t pinion! I need to get a 18ish for SouthPort!! Last edited by AdrianJones; 12-01-2008 at 12:02 AM. Reason: Mistake |
