Default Brushless gearing knowledge base......

I've been trying to understand gearing brushless motors and it seems that the best advice is "keep experimenting till you find what feels right in YOUR car". This along with the stories of motors dying left right and centre I was wondering if we could compile a list of known good motor / ratio / car combinations.....

Please add what your running (assuming that your happy with it and it's reliable of course!!!)

I was told 22/81 with a b4 and Novak GTB 6.5.
It might help to list your car and equipment....

Cheers both .....

Ian the idea is that you guys list your cars and equipment and then it builds into a knowledge base ..... somebody can come to this thread and search for "B4 novak 6.5" and get the answers of people like yourself ..... Result is a lot more happy racers, a lot less motors / speedos damaged by incorrect gearing and hopefully less "what do I gear this combination on?????" threads.

For the record mine is BJ4WE / Novak 5.5 / LRP Sphere Comp TC running 17/78 (which Brian P' tells me is WAY too conservative)

I run my novak 5.5R on 19/78 almost everywhere, though I have been known to run 20/78 on lower friction tracks as it calms the low end punch down a bit.

Thanks for the reply Chris ..... the speedo settings are interesting ... exactly the same as I am running .... was a bit worried I wasn't getting the full top end on power setting 1 but if you use that you've put my mind at rest!!!

Changed my mind 18/81 on a B4 6.5 sintered is good. indoors - slippy/grippy.

Hi,

All those running the LRP 5.5, what final ratios do your setups come out at?

I run a 501x, and with the big belt conversion if I follow my motors original suggested gearing I'd need a 13t or 14t pinion!

Dave
