Transmitter sets

I am getting back into RC and just dragged all the old radio gear out and fitted it to a MR4BC but found glitches in the system. So after a few new parts, ESC and motors its time for a new radio set.

Not a basic one but not a full on hand held super computer.

What would you all suggest?

Sanwa Gemini II (i think) - its about £100

I have thought about the Spektrum DX, KO EX5, and the Futaba 3PM and Hitec CRX/SRX, so why the Sanwa?

All the sets you list are pistol grip / wheel sets.

In the UK we, as a whole, prefer twin stick sets and the Sanwa is awesome value for a twin stick set.

As the rest of the world seem to prefer the pistol grip / wheel radios there is a larger selection and spec-for-spec they are a little cheaper than the equivelent wheel sets.

I have driven both types of radio over the last 20 years or so, started on twin stick, went wheel for about 4 years, then went back to twin stick. My preference for twin stick is based on my ability to be more progresive on the steering than with a wheel. The time I went wheel I was doing a fair bit of touring car and found that I could modulate the brakes better with a trigger.

everyone says get the sanwa gemini 2 but i find that driving quality is massivly improved with a quality tranny it really makes the diffrence get a KO PROPO universe 2 the best transmitter around.

If we are going to turn this in to a mine is beter than yours thread I'd have to say the Futaba 3VCS is the daddy .... went from KO (after 7 years) to the Futaba and really like how easy and quick it is to get to all the settings you might need to trackside.

Now back on topic ...... Bloody Pom seems to have a preference for wheel transmitters so I'd recomend the Futaba 3PM as it's more feature packed than the KO EX5 and can be bought with 2.4GHz as standard!

For the record I still have my old wheel transmitter and that was a KO EX11 Presto so as not to sound like a Futaba junkie

Im not saying mine is better myself and someone else i know have both improved since we got the new transmitters and they are much better. avaliable for only 180 quid from hong kong there the best trnany around.

and the ones you have mentioned are closer to a "...full on hand held super computer." The sanwa is a good mid-range transmitter with enough features to make a useable difference.

it may be worth buying a second hand KO esprit vantage type r, as they are great radios and now the new one is out they arent as expensive.

The only reason I was looking at pistol is that most of the 2.4Ghz are wheel. I used to use stick and that seems fine.

I have the in/laws coming through HK in a couple of weeks so do you know any hobby shops in HK?

If you want a stick based 2.4Ghz set, I can highly recommend the Futaba 3GR FASST 2.4 set. Its reasonably priced (£157 here in the UK) and has good functionality.

Thats what i was about to suggest, seen a few people with them and people i know who have the 40mhz version seem very happy with it.
