Default Bigger n Bigger.....

Well I have started my shopping list after a very long time away, and I’m going to be trying my hands at this dirty thing called off-road (yes I was a white trainer TC driver) after being away for 10years I have nothing left, not even a hex drive so I have put together a shopping list of what I think im going to need,
So the question I ask is what have I overlooked? And is ther anything that you can recommend?

Kits – B4.1
Radio – 3VCS
Speedo – Not ordered, looking at a speed passion or a LRP SXX V2
Motor – Not Ordered, Looking at speed passion or a LRP
Servo – Not Ordered, Looking at Team Orion Vortex
2x Lipo’s - – Not Ordered, Looking at Team Orion Vortex

1/16th hex drive
0.050 hex drive
5/64 hex drive
3/32nd hex drive
2.5 Hex Drive
Body Reamer
long noise pliers
FAST401B: Fastrax set up
tool box
stand
transponder
S-iron
solder
Charger

So what have I missed? This shopping list just seens to get bigger and bigger.

Many thanks G

If you want to keep costs down a little, I would suggest you dont need 2 packs of Lipos. I only have 2 packs, one for each class.

For next year you will also need a lipo sack to charge them in. This is a BRCA rule so must be adhered to

I don't think you would need a set up station for 10th off road, and the B4.1 kit should come with a camber guage... Which is all you would really need imo...

Best to check with your local off road clubs to see if they have 'hand out' transponders too, another way to keep the initial costs down

I can see Hex Drivers, but no Nut Drivers...

I'd personally get some bigger pinions, i've never used that small.

No need with the Setup Station.

EDS Hex Driver 2.5 x 120mm, whats that for ?

Just get the 1 LiPo, easily enough. I use a 4000mah and only ever use about 1800mah max, enough time in between races to top back up.

No major need for a Gazeebo straight away, coming to Summer afterall...

The 2.5mm is for the motor screws looking at the manual, (well i hope it is)

regarding Pinions what are you guys useing in the B4.1 with a 6.5

NUT DRIVER something to add, do you know what size i'm going to need as cant see it in the manual,

Back when i was racing the english summer was not always the best, lets hope that has changed but if not a Gazeebo will be needed..

one other question will the Orion Carbon 7.4v 4600mAh 45C LiPo have the duration for a full race with out any sign of dumping, or am i best going for the 5400 45C 7.4V as stated in my other post?

I would get a 7.5 motor if your going to be racing 2wd IMO....it will be more than enough for when you get back into it. I tried a 6.5 to start with in a B4, but it was nearly undiveable on everything apart from high grip carpet, or on a massive smooth high grip grass track!

Hope this helps a bit..

You should do 20 mins on one charge.

7.5 for 2wd boss, big pinion.

if that the case with the 4600mAh 45C LiPo why do you spend an extra £20 on the 5400??

I'd not do that, unless I was trying to do a full meeting on one charge.

Yeah man, remember the modern ESC's and motors are much more efficient than back-in-the-day, and we did 5 mins on 1700's back then.

imo
i ve always ran a 6.5 in my 2wd
even if your a beginner turn it down a bit then when your ready unlesh it whats the point of buying a 7.5 then months down the line having to buy another motor just my opinion
ps i ve always ran a 22t pinion with kit spur on a b4
also ive only ever ran 2 packs of lipos 3200 35c that was plenty and loads of time to recharge between races
just trying to help you save some pennies

i was thinking the same regarding the motor, i am new to off road yes but back when i was racing in the TC class i was a A final regular with even coming 2nd in the overall BTCC championship, thats why im looking for the best as i want to be pushing very hard, the thing that i forgot the most was how much stuff you need to do this, i have spent over £1000 so far with still loads of little and big things yet to order

also i find that the tech has all changed loads from the good old 3300 with a 12turn motor in my classic TC3

also thanks to everyone for all your help over the past week.

Sounds like a very comprehensive shopping list!

Just a couple of things I would change in that list:

- Do yourself a favour and get the 2.4gHz version of the radio. So much nicer than having to fiddle about with crystals and if you ever need to set anything up on the car in the pits you can just turn it on whenever and and not ruin someones run.

- The 6.5 will be mental in a B4. Go for a 7.5 and it will give you a broader usefull range combined with any Lipo over 40-45C and not get quite so hot. Remember that brushless motors overheat when undergeared as well. That was one of the things I had to get my head round when I started up again.

- Have a look at Vampire Lipos from DMS for example. Great value and they do a 6200mAh 60C now. Remember the higher the C rating the punchier it will feel and the higher turn motor you can run.

- You do not need the setup system. People will point and throw food at you (I would) Setup boards are for touring cars and touring cars only. Camber gauge and a proper table is all you need. You''ll notice the car goes better with some slop in the joints anyway...

- 2 Sets of lipos will do you fine but I would not use one exclusively.

Other than that give it some and have fun
