From memory I executed a less than perfect four wheel drift onto the straight from a 180 degree bend, hitting a wall side-on with front and rear wheels at the same time, not with what I'd say was any huge force - the track is low grip and speeds at that point weren't high. If it were my old XX4 I'd probably have expected a bust front wishbone, perhaps a steering knuckle or hub carrier too, nothing at the back.

What I got was broken front and rear hubs, broken steering knuckle and three (count em!) bent driveshafts. I know it's one incident and it's easy to get unlucky and jump to conclusions, but I'm truly surprised at just how much stuff broke - especially the driveshafts, I never managed to do that to one in many years of racing before, let alone three in a moment

As for the parts prices, some are great but most moulded parts are simply 'in line' with many other manufacturers. When the whole car (assembled with all hardware, electrics, radio gear, batteries, painted shell and basic charger!) comes in at the price it does, I perhaps expected the component parts to be equally reasonable in a Mardave-like fashion.

Is a cheap but fragile car a false economy? Yes. Is the Blast a fragile car? Too early to tell. I hope not, as it's a very capable club racer and they should sell tons of them. I'll probably order the parts this week and try it again soon.

Just ran a few packs through mine earlier to run it in using an 8.5 brushless setup which seemed noisey at 1st but seems a bit quieter now.I,m still not sure on pinion size with the 8.5 but will play around with 18/19 teeth tomorrow and see what goes.

Hopefully it was just one of those 'freak' crashes, were you don't have much force but the car falls to bits (bit like my old XXX with every slight impact!)

And on parts prices, you got to remember, these are probably made in China, so have got to be transported across, with taxes and import duties, they end up the same price as other cars. Mardave bits are/were cheap cos they are made here.

Nick the car does seem noisy its something that i found strange compared to my 511,but the gear diffs do make the car noisy,im running a 6.5 today on a 21 pinion,im at coventry so you know the car will be well tested today

as for a fragile car i think your crash was unlucky as my first time out with car i crash tested and just cracked a front tower,i will know more today as cov is a very testing track on the cars

stick with the car i think its capable of being thereabouts with other makes and now spares are appearing can only be a good thing as from what i see and hear car sales are going well

i will report back tonight and let you know the verdict

If that's your reasoning then the whole car would be more expensive too as that'll be put together in China and shipped over - I doubt LRP are selling them at a loss. As I see it, the car is super cheap and the spares are 'normal' - some real disparity there. Long term, you'll only save if the car doesn't snap or wear out more often than others.

I hope you're right it was a freak crash, though I now have doubts about the strength of the metal parts. I'll be buying those spares, plus replacing the spur gear which lasted half a dozen runs (yes, I'm on 0.6 mod pinions!) and trying again - will report back on here.

R+D puts a lot of cost/overheads onto a kit price, this probably has next to none compared to Schuey, AE, Losi, etc, as its just a copy/re-worked existing car, that is why they would be cheap to produce as a kit.

Great example of this is the Durango, most expensive car out at the moment, but spares are in line with other cars

Test no 3 Robin hood Raceway Sunday 28th March

Sunny but windy and a very technical track.

I turned up with just the kit tyres hoping they would work. Oh yes they did !! I had to cut off two outer rows front and rear to stop the grip roll.

Ran the car as per Worksop meeting same gearing etc. First two rounds were a reminder how hard it is to go fast round Robin hood. It feels like you can give it more beans everywhere. But if you do it bits back and throws you off.

best 2 out of 4 needed so round 3 I took it 90%. It worked and managed a quick 11 lapper and 12th in round . Round 4 was slower as I made a few mistakes but in total I sneeked into the B final in 10th.

B final Leg 1 - took it steady picked my way through the field and managed 4th place well pleased. It makes me chuckle when driving it as its not far off my durango on excellatration and braking and turning. A bit of spring tuning and it will really surprise.

B final leg 2 Got another good start and was chasing down in around 5th I think when i landed awkward and broke the steering arm. Bugger !!


well pleased so far I will stripp it this week and hopefully see the LRP guys next monday at the neo. A few good upgrades and it will be great.

ill be honest I have had a few issues and hopefully they will be addressed in the future. Just have to remember its a cheap RTR !!!!!

Still the question - is it possible to use 48dp spur in Blast? Would like to have one standard in all my 1/10 off-road cars...

Depends on sooo many factors!

What 6.5 it is, how many volts your batt is, what the temperature is, what tyres your using (and how they are prepped), tyre size, road surface, gearing, etc. There are so many variable factors no one could tell you

I read that a few of you are running the S10 with Lipo.

Did it unballance the car in the jumps compared to Nimh ? and did you have to put an extra weight to correct it ?

I was deciding between the LRP and the Team C / Ansmann 4wd since they are probably the best two cars as far as value for your dollar vs speed but in the end I choose the Team C, maybe everyone else did too. But I guess they are both fairly close

So, i'm about to get back in the game, have been out in 9 years.

I however still has my Losi xx4we and wonder, should i stick with the xx4 or should i go for this new LRP blast BX, upgrade the uppertray to CF ?, i have ZTW esc and 5.5 sensored motor. and SP lipo's so it's all about the car. and will the LRP take 48P spurs ?

I would now add to this Caster SK-10 Buggy. Check it, very nice car and cost ~150GBP.
