Default Trakpower Issue

Hi All..

Just wondering if anyone else has had the same issue...

I bought two 3600 30C TP stick packs about a year ago and have ran them all season (about 40 charges) balanced every time using the TP balancer...

Following the Coventry MAM a couple of weeks ago both packs seem to have lost there punch or ability to let the charge out..??

I tried them in my X6 last week and it was slow and no real top end, first I thought it was gearing or the motor so I checked and was well, I changed to one of my lads cheap Yeah racing 20C lipos and it was rapid to say the least so its the lipo packs...

They charge ok and balance exactly as they should, I checked the packs tonight and both have held there charge over the week as you would expect so no problems there but still no real power getting to the speedo /motor and the car looks sluggish by comparison...

Both packs were bought on the same day and im wondering wether it was a bad batch...

There is NO swelling to the packs and no signs to say why they would have "gone off" so im completley lost on whats gone on..

Anyone got any ideas, or had the same issue ??

I have emailed trakpower so will await there response

Cheers

Lee

Have you checked how clean the battery tubes are on the packs, and also how tight your speedo's male connectors are in them? A slightly bad contact there can make quite a difference!

If they look tarnished try putting a little motor spray on a cotton bud and poking it round in each connector

Have you tried a different ballancer? I have seen a trak power one look like its working properly until he tried another, just to find that was the issue.

The Flightpower lipo packs have not got the best reputation in flying circles, lots of people have complained about the performance going off after not many cycles. I have packs that cost half of the equivalent Flightpower ones, which are better in many ways. If they have gone lame, it sounds like they may have had their best sadly.

Where are they stored? My trakpowers (3200's, different ages and use patterns) both seem to have dropped off a bit yesterday at a frozen Bury Metro, as did another drivers 4600's, but in contrast my Intellects and Orions worked fine. We figured that perhaps the Trakpowers really don't like the cold, so if they are left in the shed, or boot of your car overnight they might not work that well.

Stored indoors last night, but we were racing in 0c temperatures today.

Cheap set of Yeah Racing, not a problem.

Didn't use my Speed Passion LIPOs today.

I won't be getting any more Trakpower LIPOs I expect

Try giving them a good cycle, discharge down to nearly 6V then ballance them and try them again

i callled trackpower today and had a lengthy chat

when storing lipo your not suposed to store them fully charged this will give you a damaged pack/lack of punch.
you can recover some by cycling, but they will never be the same.. trakpowers come to you 70% charged, they do that for a reason, also why good chargers have a "storage" mode.

so store them partially charged, ie after a run, dont top them back up, but leave them till next time

hope this helps

Mark
