This will do it - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/THE-TORNADO-DA...1%7C240%3A1318

If they are on the same network you can transfer files between there, if it's wireless it will take a long time or you could buy an external hard drive and transfer them on that.

Ben

Can you connect both of your computers to a router using Ethernet cables ?

Its the quickest way to do this .... Hard drive to hard drive via Ethernet

or

As previously mentioned you can use an external usb hard drive or USB flash drive if you dont have much to transfer.

However, if you have 300 gig of hardcore as Northy suggests, then you will be sat there a long time

you don't need a router if you don't already have one - as has been said, just a cross over network cable will do it. That's what we used for years at our house -

I think this should do the trick:

Share the folder(s)
Go to the computer which you wanna transfer to, my computer, network places, view workgroup computers, your house one should appear with the folders you shared, then drag them accross.

Is it vista on the old machine? If so you need to create an account with a password so you have access.

Southwell, can you expand on that Vista point a little?? because my desktop runs Vista, and i can't get it to share "my" directory - only shared directory. Laptop is running XP, and when my previous desktop was running XP all was fine and i had it sharing no problems.

It isn't a big issue for me, which is why i haven't bothered to do anything about it!! although did try (and failed) to get it to work again last week!

Pah, you try networking 4 PC's to play Doom.
Admittedly there's not much call for DOS based networking these days!

Can't you just burn it to CD/DVD or does that PC not have a writer or is there really too much data to do it that way?

Vista needs a username and password to access shared folders so if you dont use your laptop with a password, creating a username with a password should give you access. It can be a pain though as vista is pants.
I don't actually use it, only had access on it for a few months before i went back to XP

So would it be the Vista PC (desktop) that needs the password, or the wireless laptop running XP?
