Right here goes

Twin drum(Bomag/Terrex) are the best weight wise with vibrate on they will pack it down tight. If you are rolling grass these rollers can flatern out a used track area very well, BUT you can pan the soil by over compacting, this means you creat such a compacted layer of soil that water passes through it very slowly thus your track dranage will be screwed. If you have heavy clay type soil this is a very very bad thing all the water will just sit on top.(world wam up basildon years ago)

I have built a few tracks over the years I have lernt this, If you have lifted the track up and are going to roll the whole area a twin drum ride on roller is the best, just don't over do it.

If you are rolling an exsiting track or a dirt track a single drum is far easier to get arond the track

big is not always better

THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE is role in straight lines! turn in small amounts shunting back and forth on the corners, If you try and turn around the corner the roller has no diff and will ripple the surface and leave nasty little steps every were that buggy tyres will soon rip up and you will have a rough track again real soon.

And as we found smooth metal drums have no grip, you can get stuck on a worm cast!!

Oh yer if you are rolling big jumps try and stay on the roller, don't fall of half way over the jump DXR style

Hope thats a bit of help.........I'm off to read this months copy of roller monthly,Or maybe I sould get out more often?

Mostly good advice from Mr Dwarf there

However, if you're doing sand or soil, I'd go with a heavy duty plate compactor. I used to work for a company that did this type of plant, so might be able to get one on the cheap. PM me if you need it... (or a roller)
