Budget DSLR - Advice

Hi all,

The canon 17-85 lens is about £180 for a 2nd hand one. way over my current budget.

Stu, I agree, I am going to need some better lenses at some point, but at this moment in time, I don't have the money for one.

I know the 18-55 kit lens has got a really bad reputation. why is this? I've seen some awesome photo's taken with it?

Thanks losixxx, that lens looks to be within budget. can anyone comment on it at all?

Ok, I see your point - at least a cheap lens will get you going.

I've found the 18-55 to be OK at 18mm up to about 30mm - after that it all goes tit's up with loss of definition on contrasty egdes and stuff

With that lense you'll not get much better than you can get with something like a Fuji S### whatever camera - with a better lense on your 20d body will be like some sort of photo warrior.

Yeah, I see what you mean.

I've managed to get the missus to buy me a Canon 55-250 IS lens today, so that will be my first real lens.

Although this is not an L lens, it is far better than the 70-300 sigma that I was considering.
