Default Orion Motors in X5

Last night when i was trying to mesh up the pinion and spur on the x5 i noticed that the orion brushless motor was touching on the chassis thus making it hard to spin the motor to get it closer to the spur. Is this common with all brushless motors and is it safe to cut away the chassis without weakening it too much.

O sorry, i get you now, it's hitting on the side bit? God knows then....
If it's not much i wouldn't think cutting as bit out would harm it.

See www.4wdrc.com - there is a tread about this. But the right motor plate and you will be fine (do not remember the part no, but there are 3 different types)

I run an Orion motor in my X-5 and you have to run the standard motor plate and not the lowered WE edition. You will need LOSI A3219 Mount, Motor, Standard (non-lowered). I have not had to make any modifications to the chassis to make it fit.

Ive had to do the same with my xx4 but recently i redrilled the xx4 std plate so it sits as low as the we one but still low profile.

slightly shave the outer rear edge of the chassis around the motor as that is where stu's caught no matter what motor plate we ran. the orion is just a little more square on the end bell so will catch. we used a sanding drum to thin the edge rather than cut it away
