I have a shell that came with a car I bought where the paint is flaking off quite badly, the shell is otherwise in good condition so is there a way I can clean the old paint off so that I can re-paint it?

It can be done with brake fluid but it is very messy.

brake fluid works but unless you are super broke then the time taken and the uncertainty of the end result is a waste.
just fork out c.15 sheet on a new shell, worth it in the long run |

As Jon says, just save yourself the hassle and get a new shell . In my experience, most solvents that remove paint, damage the lexan, making it brittle.

I was going to say exactly the same as both Jon and Ginga said.
If you're that desperate to do something with the shell sell it and put the money toward what you spend on a new one. |
