Default Rear shock setup for centro...help

Built up the car with settings as listed on cml for Tom Yardy. Looks like most of the setup sheets have #1 piston and 30wt oil with silver springs.

Tested out the car for a couple of quick packs on carpet track and the rear bottoms out/slaps on landing on jumps that can not be backsided. Seems like the rear is to soft or not enough pack.

I am using older non v2 shock and wonder if this effects piston selection.

Little confused as most of setting show #1 piston but just feels super soft.

Any suggestions? I am an experienced onroad racer but very new to carpet offroad. Wondering if it is bad technique or just a shock build issues?

Thanks
Jamie

Can I suggest you try a Ghea #2 piston as this has more pack, but with quicker rebound than an Assoc #2 due to its shape.

Depending on the type of jump it may be that bottoming out is just what it will do...so unless the bottoming out is causing you undue trouble with the handling then maybe don't worry about it?

More pack or stiffer springs is the way to stop the bottoming out....but that will have an effect on the handled elsewhere on the track obviously!

Are other cars also bottoming out on the same jumps?

Setup is about compromise..

with 30wt #1 and silver springs, the car corners extremely well - I run this same setup too.

It may bottom out, but is this causing you to loose time on your lap - is it causing you to roll, double bounce etc? It doesn't me.

But, you could stiffen the shock in oil, piston or/and spring - although this would compromise the handling in corners, you could loose significant time there, for no gain over jumps... & then your not winning!

Think about the jump though, are you really going to be faster going for big-air? back off, land early and get on the power, chances are this will be quicker and less likely to crash.

Good advice thanks.

It is double bouncing or slap bouncing off jumps on landing. Noticed some other buggy did it to less extent and some not at all. Tried to control but every once in awhile I turtle it as some jumps you can not back side as short jump that you must air it out a little.

What is best compromise to reduce some of the slapping but not diminishing handling to much. I will also try to adjust driving and approach to jumps.

# 2 piston? Heavier oil? Different lower mounting position for shock? Heavier Spring?

When I changed from a #1 to a #2 piston I left the oil the same - this was on a B4...
