Default Rebuilding g/box, help identifying these...

I'm in the process of inspecting, cleaning & partially rebuilding my x2c gearbox, there are two parts which i am unsure of, the first is this, marked with the arrow:

there appears to be no reference to it in the build manual, i think it came out in the order it shows in the pic but i'm doubting myself, lol. Could someone confirm/indicate which order it goes onto the shaft ?

Secondly, whilst removing the outdrive ball races this "washer" came out:

it is definately not part of a worn ball race yet i'm both unsure exactly where it came from (ie, which side of the ball race) or indeed if it belongs in there at all, again, no reference to this in the manual. Note, there was only one of these found.

I'd appreciate anyone's knowledge greater than my own

The thin green washer goes on the layshaft on the outside of the gearbox before you fit the slipper/spur gear assembly. The other washer (shim) is to stop sideways slop in the diff.

As regards to the above, if i re-assemble the g/box without this mystery shim/spacer & the diff does have lateral play within the g/box housing, would you have an idea as to where best to position it ie, between the outdrive & the ball race or between the ball race & the g/box housing ?

Ps, odd how there is zero reference to the green spacer in the 1st pic within the manual

Edit that, in answer to my own question, i guess it depends where the play is exactly ie, if the diff moves sideways but the ball races don't then fit it between outdrive & ball race or if the whole lot has play inc. ball races then to place it between the ball race & the g/box housing... if all that makes sence

diff shims? you should know about them! your a rallyx man. I would say the last owner had it in there to stop the diff floating about, with a car with crown wheel and pinion drive, most rallyx and a large number of 10th 4wd they are vital to adjust the back lash/mesh of the gears, but with the common 2wd diff layout of layshaft style drive gears to diff your don't realy need to worry about a small amount of end float,IMO you realy want a nice free transmission little play not a prob.

Have a look at the gearbox housings, there maybe a chance the last owner had a bearing problem that damaged the housings, thus the shim, as in most of my cars inc the mad monkey the bearings are a nice snug fit...just a thought

if you are going the use the shim on the diff put it between the outdrive and the ballrace.

the green shimm in installed when you fit the slipper the use of the shim is to space the inner slipper plate away from the gearbox so it dousnt bind with the gearbox casing.

the spacer with the arrow comes of the layshaft but only after the gearbox is asemmbled so it actually sits on the outside of the gearbox before the slipper plate

as fot the washer/shim in the final photo i dont have a clue its not noramaly in there
