Default Team Orion Vortex brushless motor updated ?

I just bought a Team Orion 5.5 vortex brushless motor. I noticed that they have changed the appearance slightly, the sticker is on the end not around the middle. Are there any other changes ?

I read something about people removing the internal fan as they didn't rate it, I cant see one in mine, have Orion now removed it ?

Ok, I searched a bit harder and found that it has indeed been updated, there is no fan inside now.

Not sure why they dont update their website, you think they would advertise the fact they updated it ?

there will be a fan its the large black disk closest to the pinion end of the motor as for the sticker i think its just improved pacaging etc as my early vortex came in a plastic box with the sticker orund the middle but my newer one is like yours.

The fan has definitely gone. There is just a long brass coloured bush there instead !

It was on another forum that other people were confirming they had no fan in a newly received motor.

According the BRCA leccy board there's a fan in the 2008 motors, they just tech'd them for use

I know they have just released their new top of the range motor, labelled 'Vortex Race 2008', maybe this has a fan in ? Does the BRCA description say if it for this newer one ?

Mine is basically a late issue of the 2007 motor, where early ones seemed to have a fan and later ones not.

here is a pic of my 5.5 without fan (well except the one I added to blow on it !). Sorry about the poor photo but you can see the bare shaft inside. I also attatched a pic of the new 2008 motor.

they don't say it's the newer one but list it as the Vortex 2008 Race with the following specs

Black Alu. Ends, with loose Black centre sleeve. Separate Al. End Plate secured with 3 screws. 6 x 5 mm dia holes in term. End. 3 x 4mm slots at mounting face. Mounting face with chamfered edge. 6 Screw holes.
Sensored system. “Y” & Delta. Black Al. End-Plate with “TOP” & wind detailed. 7.25mm shaft reduced for 1/8 and 3/16 bearings. Silver sintered magnet with 13mm fan. 7.5T, 6.5T, 5.5T, 4.5T, 4.0T, 3.5T, 3.0T & 2.5T. Rotor:- 12.25.

so you'd have to say that it's the newer motor in the pics

The peak vantage is meant to be the same and i just checked mine purchased in april this year and it still has a fan (not 2008 spec) so id say its just the newest ones.
