It looks like Tamiya went with counter rotating center shafts!

Yes they have! Look at the picture again...

The front shaft, and rear shaft will spin in opposite directions.

I have to disagree too, they will both go the same way! If they both run off the gear that is the spur side they would go the opposite but they don't .

Nope. Youre both wrong. They will go opposite direction.
