Are all silicone oils the same? Are there better makes? What do you prefer?
I'm currently using Schumacher oils in 1/10 off-road. but I heard Schumacher is not great i.e. too light. (excuse me if this has been covered, "shock" and "oil" are too common as search words!) |

This has been covered before but more so in specific car sections so here goes some general thoughts. You will find that all silicone shock oils are far from the same, they generally look about the same with a notable increase in viscosity as your rating gets higher. Many will advise you the same as me, don't get to bogged down by who's is thinner or thicker but choose a brand you are comfortable with, get a good range and stick with that brand. As you may have heard before, one brands 35wt is another brands 40wt and if you mix across the brands it can become hell to keep track and set your car up. When you view set up sheets then use that as a base line guide with regards shock oil, get used to how your brand performs in heat, cold, high bite, loose dirt etc etc And remember with your shocks, when in doubt, poor them out! I've been know to refill my shocks many times a day sometimes because they feel incorrect I use schumacher as well and find it good if a little 'whispy', but I know what it does in each weight so I don't get any crazy surprises when I swap weights ![]()
