Default Thrifty racing hints :-)

No doubt many of us here have a good idea on how to save money on parts, spares etc so I thought id start a tread so we can share this knowledge and save money (to spend on more racing/beer)

Heres my thrifty hint...

Instead of spending out on lots of different weights of oil, just buy afew and blend em!

Heres how i do it

Get a syringe and draw up 40w you oil, say 5mls, then draw up 5mls of 30w, mix it up in an empty bottle and hey prestow you now have 35w without spending £4 on a new bottle

Liam, that works so long as you have oils which are in linear steps ... most oils sold as *.wt [numbers like 25wt etc.] aren't but the oils sold as cst (numbers like 250 are the actual measurment), for example Kyosho and Xray I believe, are linear.

The best way to save money in this sport is make some friends and travel together, fuel costs (for the 1:1 car) are now the biggest cost to racing ... that cost is even more than tires for a meeting usually for me

Make sure you cut tires off rims before using your prefered degluing techneque so you can be 100% sure you can save the inserts as well as the wheels.

Last one is buy a car that doesn't break or wear out much and doesn't need upgrades from day one ... sometimes a few extra ££s spent on the kit can make a real difference to you overall costs. For example the majority of my Kyosho equipment is about 3 years old now and still going strong!

If you got sloppy ball cups, place a thin bag (like Tesco or similar) over the ball stud, pluce ball cup onto stud, pull bag away, it takes up the slop....

+1. I'm financially constrained atm, and the distance between me and any of the racing venues in Ireland has meant I've barely turned a wheel all summer. I'd have said keep your eyes peeled on ebay, using clever, obscure and misspelled search terms, but it's quite hard to score a bargain their atm. Do use Quidco, there's a cashback on fees.
