Hi,
Is it normal for Tamiya lexan paints to become unstuck after a few weeks? I painted my shell 4 weeks ago and the paint on the wing started to peel last week and the body is now starting to lift where the body gets hit. You can see the paint lifting under the shell as the paint looks different? I did strip the wing the other day with nail varninsh remover and rub it down with 1200 wet and dry and repaint, seems OK, for now. Is it the paint, should I use fasttrax paint? Or is it my prep? Thanks, Rob. |

did you wash the shell out 1st? the shells usually are sprayed with a release agent so they come off the mould & if you don't wash it off properly (i.e. warm soapy water & lots of it) then nothing will stick to it very well.
Another factor is did you use Tamiya PS paint? Also the Fastrax paint & the Tamiya paint are pretty much identical (some people even say it's the same stuff).. except the fastrax paint is usually a quid cheaper & you get more in the tin! |

Hi,
I washed the shell out with warm soapy water, put a coat of paint on, heat gunned it until it went matt, then did the wing the same. Then all over again until the yellow ran out. Went straight onto the white protective coat and did the same, spray, heat, matt etc etc. |

More importantly, which Tamiya spray did you use?

I sprayed our 24hr car with Tamiya PS paints and the paint stuck for the entire meeting. I wash the shell, mist the first few coats leaving about 30 mins between coats and then spray as normal leaving 30 mins between. All left to air dry at room temp.
