Hello, can you advise me on how to drill coutersinks in carbon fibre without access to a press drill? Can it be done carefully by hand, power drill or even cone shaped dremel? Does anyone have experience of this? I'm using 3mm carbon and M3 CSK screws. Thanks

I currently use a press drill, but i had no issues doing it with a countersink bit in a battery drill before, just make sure you do it vertically and apply plenty of pressure behind the drill and it will cut a nice countersink.

Yep. I've done it by hand.
I used a drill at first, well a drill bit in a dremel type tool and then used a cone shape tool on the dremel. I also used a special countersink tool to better effect. it was just part of one of those cheap drill bit kits that come in a vac formed plastic case. I imagine you can get one cheap from wilko. I had to use it in a drill though as it had a large fitting that wouldnt go in the dremel. Chris.

To ensure the screw head seats correctly in the countersink, you'll need to use a countersunk bit. Drill bits will most likely have the wrong point angle as it varies dependant on the material it has been intended to cut.

Thank you all
![]() Is there a countersink bit you recommend e.g. off eBay or B&Q? Will a regular power drill work or do I need more revs e.g. from a Dremel type tool? |

You could do an eBay search for 'Bosch 13mm tool steel countersink bit' and one should turn up for £3.99 plus p&p.
Or look at it, and buy similar in b&q. Seems reasonable though. |
