What make of pinions do people use and why.

Are there benefits to using ally over steel (weight obviously, what about noise and wear???)

I use the one DC Racing have in stock at the time I order them ... LOL

Ali pinions are great in the short term however they do tend to wear quickly. Steel last longer but heavier.

With modern motors I belive that the difference between an ali and steel pinion is not an issue, sure somebody will disagree though!
