Default 2wd vs 4wd

I have been to 2 regional meetings of late, and had a b4 in my heat. They were both very high grip tracks, and it was interesting how the B4 was actually faster in some area's than my 4wd was (xx4).. but over the whole lap the 4wd was about 1 second faster overall.

It seems to me that 2wd buggies have advanced remarkably well, and that in high grip situations may actually be faster. Obviously in the states (and low grip tracks) the 4wd will be a lot faster overall, but in this country, the 2wd could keep up...

Just a thought,
M.

Don't forget they are lighter too so better power to weight ratio, less rotational mass and will be sharper at changing direction due to the less weight transfer.
But a 4wd will always be quicker round corners, quicker acceleration, etc.

I know where you're coming from Mark, but i think that anywhere you go a 4wd car should always be quicker round the track no matter what really..... the amount of sheer grip you get should always mean you're quicker in and out of the corners so i tend to lean towards the 4wd's being quicker myself.... even with high grip

At Worksop round 3, the fastest lap of the meeting kept on changing between 2wd and 4wd... there was nothing in it.

Danny McGee was setting the fastest 2wd laps, and Rich Lowe was setting the fastest 4wd laps (and trying to, he didn't like 2wd fastest lap being quicker than his )

Haha that's Danny for you - he's stupidly quick when he's on form!

I would still say anyone that races at a good level would be a bit quicker with 4wd though.... Put it this way, if you had a 4wd National i wouldn't expect anyone to be able to make the A with a 2wd... not in that standard of drivers.

Yeah, I agree with you Nick... although at a 4wd regional this year, Mark Stanley made the 'a' final in 9th place with a B4!! I think that they have come on more than we think.

In Norway some guys actually won some 4wd races with a B4 (we are allowed to race 2wd in 4wd races). I'm not saying this will happen everytime, but in the hand of the right driver, it's possible.
