Default What's the design theory behind making the 22 so long??

After running my 22 for the first time at Worksop on Sunday, one thing is really obvious on track and that is the cars length.

I ended up making the wheelbase the shortest it would go on the wheel side of the wishbone which made the car feel better. Next time out I'll be trying moving the wishbone further forward on the inner hingepin to see if it makes it better still.

Given the car felt better with the shorter wheelbase (in my opinion), why was the car made so long? Is it more suited to outdoor conditions?

The only thing I've read about the design and the reason for the length of the car is for stability and corner speed! I can't remember where I saw it but they said the longer they kept making the car the more corner speed they could carry... On a normal buggy I think having it so long would make it feel very safe and understeery but apparently the new steering geometry of the 22 means that you still have plenty of front end to deal with the slower tight corners!

Interesting to hear that u felt it went better when u shortened it... Are u running rear or mid motor set up... And what track surface are u running on???

Jon!

This was mid motor config on a corky indoor surface with some carpet. Now the indoor season is over I'll test the different wheelbase settings to see how it affects the car.

Have you tried running the shorter wheelbase?
