Is turpentine ok to clean new tyres and wheels before glueing or will it leave a residue?

Turps, no, it is an oil based solution, just squirt a little motorspray on a clean cloth and wipe.

The main thing that I have found with tyres and I have only been doing it this year is trimming the bead before glueing.

Im with Spencer, trimming no more than 2mm off the beaded edge makes them sit better. They will glue fine even if not cleaned.
But to guarantee this, no harm in cleaning stuff, something as simple as Fairy liquid and a good scrub will degrease everything very well, and you'll have Fairy soft skin too! :jimmeh |

And they will smell fresh all day long.
