Looking at the IG1000, KGE 2000TC and the KGE 1000TI.
Im not loaded so looking to spend about £250 max from eBay. Ive had a little search on Google and only really found blogs telling of problamatic starting issues... But does anyone here have any experience, or any better recommendations for £250 tops? Thanks ![]()

Mines the 1000Ti and has been pretty good.
Does this weird thing where it stops running if you put load on it within the first 20 seconds of turning it on from cold, and the 'smart throttle' switch broke but otherwise it has been fine. Griff even has the sump of his filled with 50wt shock oil for over a year and it still works fine. Most issues I have seen are caused by the oil low auto cut off that the Kipors have, which means if the oil level is low then it wont start. |

PMSL @ Griff and the 50wt oil in the sump!
Clarke also do a IG1000, slighty newer than the Kipors. So bloody expensive though...and they are the cheap end of the market :/

Do you really need a gene though?
Handy, but noisy and expensive to buy and you need petrol to keep them going! What can you do with one of those that you can't do with a big leisure battery and 240v inverter? You can have the leisure battery on at at time of the day, it's silent, and with an inverter you'll be able to charge your mobile, run a laptop, use a soldering iron, umm....most things really, but can't think of anything else I'd want to do while I'm sat in a field racing cars? Unless there's something I'm missing?

Cris, i had the ig2600 for 2 years before i sold it, and it was brilliant. Easy to start, super quiet and very economical. Would deffo recommend one.

Im also looking at Gene's, are there any cheap sources?
I have had Leisure batteries, and the lifetime of them is too short. Granted, Ive chosen ones with long warranties, and swapped them, but even so - its a real PITA when they go flat half way through a race day. Many people have Gene's anyway, so even if I was to continue charging from 12v, there'll always be several gene's chugging away nearby. Ive taken til now to resist getting one, although I have been borrowing a socket from someone when I can - if not ive been charging from under my bonnet as I don't trust the leisure batteries. But now im considering a caravan, a Gene I see as an essential for it. |

Aaah, I understand. What I would do is take it down to the track and test it on a few gene's of willing gene owners, and make notes of what it struggles with - perhaps try and run it with a charger or two on the go too.... then you can know from experience what'll work.

I would love a 4 stroke generator, 2 stroke ones are ok, but unless you keep them under load, they oil up..... At our club, we have a 2KV generator, old to, and there was about 12 people charging off it, soldering iron, lap counting equipment, and it sipped petrol slower than a student in a bar before they get their grant....

even a 2kw generator in theory could power the compressor but due to the high start up current of the compressor the generator cant cope speaking from personal dissapointing experience with a 5hp engined 2kw genie

Only issue i have had with my kipor is the spark plugs mainly because i think it srunning a touch rich so i just need to clean the sprk plugs up nice and regular. But they are brilliant. As for your list of stuff cris the 1000 will run that fine ive got a 2000 only because ive got the carvan with microwave etc...

Chris the Kipors are deffo the way to go judging by the tons of them I see everywhere
I dont have a genie, Ive a 12v although I generally bum a plug off someone and tap in to their genie Been thinking about getting a genie for a while now and when I do plump for one, it will be a kipor for sure, probably off the bay Failing that, if you do the nationals next year, pit within a half mile radius of DC and plug in to that bad boy, that can run pretty much a small city ![]() |

Kipor 1000KW comes highly recomended here.... been running mine all day for three of us, so a total of 5 chargers, 3sets of tyre warmers, soldering iron, laptop, tyre sander, the works... left it going all day on the smart throttle, and only used less than 3 litres of petrol (~1tank and a 1/4), with it running non-stop for about 9hours. For the ease of use over having to hall a heavy 12v, and remembering to charge it, gets my vote. Plus you can split the fuel cost between you

chriss i run an older red 650 watt kippor and it runs far more than what you have written without breaking a sweat. i even put my portable tv on it when the gp is on. when i get a new genny it will defo be a kippor unless i have the readies for a honda as they are quieter and will still only be 1kva

Just picked up a second hand Kipor 2.6 KVA. I'm very impressed with the quality. I can't wait for Winter outdoors when we can hook up a 2KW heater. Meanwhile it'll keep the waffle machines chugging at Kampenhout.
