Default new nitro racer

Hi
I'm new to racing nitro. I have been racing elec buggies and 12th for a while. I have just found a local club racing 1/8th scale nitro buggies. i want to get involved but don't have a huge budget. I have been down to the club on race night and asked around. Most have said a good starting point would be a Hyper 7 RTR or a HPI Trophy 3.5 RTR

Any advice would be good??

Thanks

Both are good cars, it depends on your level of competitiveness. I know you say you have raced other cars, so I assume you'll learn nitro very fast and you may find your progress hindered by the car. Im not saying they are bad cars, they are extremely good, and are beyond the level that the price suggests.

If you were to choose a Losi eight RTR, Hong Nor X2-RTR, or something along those lines, they may be slightly toned down versions of the top spec versions, but even so, are more than capable of being very competitice with some upgrades.

The cheapest way, long term, is not to go the route of RTR if you are going to race this class for a long time. Get a top flight kit (many to choose from), choose a decent bargain but competitive engine (Alpha), select your servos (ACE DS1015's). Far cheaper to do this than buy an RTR then upgrade it as you improve, as like I said, I assume you'll progress quickly.

I wouldn't waste time with RTR cars. They may be cheaper option but when you soon become competant ( especially since you have raced RC ) you will want a race spec version which means you are left supporting two cars or getting rid of the RTR at silly price - talking from experience.
