Default 1:1 Car Clutch Replacement

Hi,

Recently found out I need a new clutch in my 2000 1.8 diesel ford focus. (been trying to nurse it till its MOT)

Been quoted £500 at a local garage and £350 at a garage my mates day runs.

Now I know replacing the clutch is kinda big job, but what do you mechanics on here reckon on the pricing?

Ive seen a few replacement clutches for under £100 new on ebay.

Thanks

I would say about £450 to do a clutch on your focus as there is alot of work involved in doing a clutch on a focus

If its anything like a Mondeo it'll be a pig to do. It involves dropping the subframe out and lowering the engine out the bottom of the car enough to get the gearbox off. Did a mates on his drive and its a propper nightmare. Thats IF its the same

i would imagine it is the same mate, been looking up about it and it is a harder job on a FWD car.

just another thing to go wrong with it

thanks

Has the focus got a dmf (dual mass flywheel) cos that would probably need changng at the same time as well, think they cost around £300 for the part.

Just done a quick search and they do have the dreaded dmf, i would defo replace the same time as the clutch.

as already said ,if its dmf, change it as there expensive on the fords, also as told if you do go to a solid flywheel ,it puts loadsa of strain on crank, even if you drive slowish its to take the torque load out,
good price though and there not that bad to do if you have a ramp, but wouldnt entertain doing one on the ground, good luck

on the diseasel focus theyre doable in under 4 hours on the drive but like others have said its a dual mass flywheel and will need doing at the same time. If you were near me id do it for a ton plus parts. like i say its only a 4 hour job not too hard that you couldnt do it yourself

there is a way to check weather you need a DMF, if its noisey then you should also fit a starter motor as these are the main cause of the dmf failing, it does not automatically need replacing, tho while the box is out....
you can get OEM parts cheap from a good factors, just get a good branded part LUK or somin like

solid flywheel transmits the torge exactly the same way as a solid flywheel!
the dmf aids nvh and gives a smoother take up of power, (releasing clutch)

id defo not recomend you try it yourself if you have no mechanical knowledge. you can knacked drive shafts sensors etc
take it to a reputable garage,
