Default My first RC car

I remembered that it was a Hunter, but couldn't remember the make.

It was something that was irritating me but I've found it here: http://www.vintagercweb.com/hunter_runner.html

There are some great pics of a restored optima too, brings back memories...

I thankfully got rid of my Hunter. I remember it had an idler gear that would wear out in after a few weeks of racing and make a nasty grating sound as you went round the track. If things got really bad, you had to drive in reverse to get any power!

Changed if for a tufnel/brass replacement eventually, but the car wasn't great , I don't hold any emotions for it. My Optima however... Still in the cupboard. Looking at the Optima restoration makes me want to make mine all clean and shiny again.

Mine was a Mardave Meteor. I bought it and all the electrics second hand from the model shop in Crossgates, Leeds. I had loads of fun with it then went 4WD with an Optima Mid Custom and then my beloved ProCat.

First car was a Tamiya Super Sabre.

Raced it at the local club "Canterbury Burners". Remember I had the spectacular option parts of Tamiya Pin Spike Tyres and a Parma Cyclone Stock motor in it.

Also remember going through several million plastic steering uprights and replacing them with some alloy ones. When I lost a steering arm I replaced it with some chicken wire I found in the field.

Don't think I was especially fast but loved racing from day one!

But what I am still unable to work is is how come I left the car in the garage fully assembled and when I went to find it 15 years later almost nothing was left apart from the rear gearbox? Are there alien mice that eat RC parts if they are left unsupervised?
