hi,
looking to finally upgrading to lipo, but need help with which capacity just needing few opinions on which would be best, think i will go with stick batteries but not sure which one to get. thinking about this orion onehere or would it be best to get two lower capacity batteries like the trakpower goldseries? thanks |

You've provided not nearly enough info.
Presumably for a B4? Racing or bashing? Motor? As most 2WD's will only use at most 1500mah for a 5 min race the capacity is almost irrelevant other than to get a "c" rating from. Personally I'd go for around 4000mah with a 30c rating. Much more and your thumbs won't be able to keep up! If you go higher capacity a lower c rating will produce the same power and vise versa for lower capacity - in theory my old gold trakpower 4900 25c sticks are similar power to my new 4200 30c speedpower saddle packs. Hopefully I've helped a little.. edit: the ones in your link will be stupidly fast - I know I couldn't justify that much power in a 2wd!

the capacity will the orion 1 if you use in a b4 should do 3 races at 5mins then would need a charge for a final.
the c rating the higher it is the better. basicly if you have a good esc running a high turn motor it will draw more current from the battery so for that you need a higher c rating otherwise you will draw too much current from the battery to what it can give which can damage them also over heating issues.its all down to the c rating so the higher the bettery doent matter about the capacity could be 1 2400 35c you will get good performance from that because of the current from it.

are you telling this guy right? I always thought it was the voltage that altered the speed/power. stepping up from 7.2v packs to the 7.4v lipos will make a difference. The capacity will not affect the performance, only the run time, 25c, 30c etc. is the discharge rate, this will depend on the motor wind, the lower the wind the more current it will draw, if you are running a 6.5 or 7.5 in a 2wd, 30c will be plenty, go higher for 4wd. Ultimately your motor will define the speed not the lipo pack, decide the car and motor, then choose the lipo to suit.

thats what i ment the discharge rating the higher the better.lipos are a higher voltage to normal c size batteries which are 7.2v.
