Anyone working with mySQL and PHP?

I work with IT, but I'm green as to databases and web servers. I've got a backup of the old X-Factory forums, and I want to bring them to life.

I've tried to set up mySQL and PHP first on a test PC (following guides on the net) but I'm not able to make it spin.

Could anyone help me get this up and running?

What errors is it throwing back? I would say in the php file there is a connection string somewhere, make sure that points to your server (localhost or whatever it is)

Tried to set it up on an XP SP3 PC.

Didn't get past this:

Even though PHP is configured, before you can start using it, you need to tell IIS how it is able to use the new service. Until you do this, trying to load PHP files into a Web browser from your IIS server will result in nothing but errors.
You can run PHP in one of two ways with IIS - using ISAPI, or as a CGI extension. Since the ISAPI method generally results in better performance, we'll go that route for this article. To get started, you need to add the PHP ISAPI extension to IIS.

1. Go to Start | Administrative Tools | Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
2. Select server name | Web Service Extensions.
3. From the right pane, click the "Add a new Web service extension..." option.

...but no success either...

Do you have mySQL and PHP set up already? Could you try an import of the backup files? (can put them on my server for FTP download)

Edit: Trying WAMPserver 2.0i now...

Have you got IIS installed on your machine? Its a windows component and not on as standard.

I do have mysql server, but its in use and i can't access it from work.

Yes, I installed the component as per the instructions. But got stuck as I explained in the previous post on some setting...

K, FTP it somewhere and PM me the location, I will download and take a look.

I might be able to host the DB and if you can find some free PHP hosting, I can point the connection strings to my server (depends on DB size of course)
