See Matt - look what you've done!
By posting here about Shanks and his Du-wrongo you've just got him the support of the whole bloody UK Durango team. Its bad enough he got himself that jacket so he can 'feel like a team member' - now he's going to act like he is!

I'm just waiting for Durango to file a restraining order banning Shanks from driving any of their products due to the damage he will do to their reputation.......

Yes ok the lazer beat my brand new first time out Durango !!!
Apologies fellow Durango owners I was happy enough with the car though first round was very loose on the rear after woody drove it (it looked mega) an gave a little advice car got better n better oddly the front main drive shaft came out if the cup on the slipper! Had a chat to a few guys who had durango's (easy to spot as they all had the same durango tops on!!) ta for having a butchers at my car - didn't catch yr names 3rd with addition of lengthing rear track rod to longest poss car seemed spot on really did get a few laps in then that were as good as the mates I race with just mistakes that cocked me up think I'll get quicker from here in - new car some people have had there for a long tine lol |

Yes of course remember it may slightly conflict with others opinion We raised front camber links to the highest setting on the shock tower - this gives less initial turn in I believe on the track car did feel slightly less "twitchy" but not by a massive amount next we raised the rear camber links on the shock tower I think this was to give more grip mid corner (which is where my car was loosing it) again I notice a slight improvement but not loads finally I lengthened the rear camber link to the longest by moving to the outer hole on the hub now this made the largest difference by far - the rear end was far more planted now and would only really go if I was just to heavy on the throttle one thing to note is that all the time I ran with the rear weights on I.e the plate undeneath n the two rear side weights I understand some say removing them sorts the rear end and I am not disagreeing with people who do far better than me! Woodys advice was the additional weight gives more traction n it seemed to work for me-admittedly I have yet to carry out representative test - try without weight now I have made geometry changes. I think the way I have the car is good for someone of my ability I.e it's very forgiving - I could throw it into the corner at the end of high speed straight however I wanted reallY n it was easy to sort it out for a better driver it is probably not responsive enough I guess oh yeh I also had the ackerman link in the back position ps thanks to Craig collinson who gave me the majority of the set up advice via pm on here and of course woody who drove my car trackside and actually started with the spanners himselve! Next meeting is going to be even better now - all the Durango boys are fired up after some flippant comments by one of those pesky laser drivers!!!! |

There are various things you can do to gain more rear end traction, most of which have been covered by Shanks.
A few points that have not been mentioned are: 1. Reduce shock travel at the front - put a 2mm spacer in the front shocks to do this, then if you want more travel at any point you can just unwind the ball joint a few turns. Reducing travel at the front will stop the front end lifting so much under power then dropping under breaking giving you loads of weight transfer. The car will feel smoother, more consistent and easier to drive. Only a small change but trust me, it makes a big difference! 2. diff oils - going to a lighter oil in the rear will allow the diff to rotate easier when going round corners, thus generating more grip. 3. Shock position - standing the shocks more upright at the rear will allow the car to square up better when accelerating out of corners. The more inwards the shocks ares on the tower the more rotation you will get which could make the rear break free when pushing out of a corner. There are many other ways in which to fine tune your car to gain more rear traction, but these few points should help greatly. Here is a really good link on set ups http://users.telenet.be/elvo/ Craig Collinson |
