Is this the signal strength in game (to the game server) when you're online or the wireless strength to the router?

usually either i carn't get online or if im online gaming it will cut out and say server error (witch is really annoying) so i am guessing it's the server being shite ? but my laptop works fine ?

Could be.

In the ps3 settings menu it tells you the signal strength to the wireless router somewhere, see how strong it says it is. Maybe try a wired connection if you can?
