Default Windows 7

How many of you have take the leap to Windows 7?

I've got several copies at home awaiting install, but want to upgrade to an I7 rig first.

Just want Microsoft to get SCCM Service Pack 2 release so I can start planning deployment of Windows 7 at work.

I've got it! I'm just awaiting some bits (new motherboard etc) to turn up before I install (as I'm not sure how Windows will react to a motherboard change).

Anyone used Micro-Direct before?

Been running the pre release and the full version for a while now. Company I work for is a premier MS customer so we've had the full version for a month or so.

I can't stress how much of an improvement it is over Vista, its fast, stable and easy to use. I've had it running on an old desktop P4 3gig with 2 gig of ram and in the last 2 months I've only rebooted it to install updates. The install picked up all the drivers and devices attached to the box without question and only took about half an hour.

Windows 7 is what Vista should have been.

I'm yet to add a machine to our domain in work though, mainly because we are running AD 2003 and until we get around to updating our DC's to 2008 I've not seen the point especially as I work for a bank so we are Group Policy crazy.

I would be interested to hear if anyone has added Win7 to a domain running GP and if you had any issues..

In case I'd not put it accross I am a big fan, huge improvement!

Mike

Is it very different to vista? I'm thinking of upgrading my mums laptop to it as it's so slow with vista on. She's not into computers and only uses her laptop to surf the net and it took her a while just to understand how to get IE running so I don't want to change it if the interface has changed very much.

I'm not sure of the spec of the laptop but I think it's got a gig of ram and a celeron processor. and she's running basic vista at the moment.

Got Win 7 on the domain with no issues and I've done the Schema update to the AD for 2008. First 2008 R2 DC has gone in. Just need to do the others 2 full 2008 and 2 core 2008

My laptop is a lot more powerful than that, and as soon as I got it I replaced Vista with XP. No point comparing windows7 with Vista - people should be comparing it with the other main OS out there which is XP.
