Hi All,
After winning a local race with a standard B4 I have again got the off-road bug. My wallet is lighter but in return I now have a standard (not the RTR) ZX5 and a ZX5-FS on the way. The track I run on is 100% grass so can anyone give me any tips to ensure it's/they're not a handful 1st time out? Which one should I run? The standard car or the FS? Kinds of things I'm thinking of: Should I use a front one way? What springs front and rear and which manufacturers springs? What tyres/inserts front/rear? Schumacher yellowsgreens? minipins or spikes? What holes on the shock tower/wishbones? What ride height? What oil in shocks? What to change if the grass is wet? I am tempted to try the standard car first as I have LiPo's from my touring cars and the standard car takes stick/side by side packs whereas the FS needs saddle pack config si I'd need to resolder some NiMh packs..... Thanks in advance! Dan |

Most definately run the FS. I wouldn't have bought the standard ZX5 in the first place TBH.
Use this setup http://www.petitrc.com/setup/kyosho/...PR20090621.pdf as a starting point. Then do the following changes : Run lime green springs up front, 1.2mm x 3 holes pistons up front, 1.3mm x 3 holes pistons up rear. Cut as many rows on the outside and inside of te front tyres as you need to make the car easier to drive. |

Might also be worth trying 1.1 x 3 hole fronts and 1.2 x 3 hole rears ... I found FABs set up a little too soft / low pack to suit me.

I run a standard ZX5 on grass with the following set-up
Rear: 30wt oil outside hole on mount, inside on wishbone Silver springs 3B pistons Camber: innner hole on gearbox & hub LWB Schu yellow minispikes 2deg toe in 2deg -ve camber Front: 40wt oil inside hole on mount, inside hole on wishbone 7 deg caster max kick-up 3C pistons Light green springs Camber: inner hole on gearbox Schu yellow minispikes w outer row cut off 1deg -ve camber One-way on shaft Found this works really well, never tried an FS but I'm not sure what all the fuss is about.

If you had of tried one you would know! The FS is a simply awesome machine, I loved the way the SP handled but the FS is something else!!!

Ok guys race this Sunday - car ready to roll - thing is, I tried it in my back garden, admitedly the grass was slightly longer than the track I'll be running on Sunday but each time I turned in the car rolled.....how do I remedy this? Cut row off front yellow minispikes? Put spacers under my camber turnbuckles on car end to change roll centre?
As I said it has yellow minispikes front and rear, kyosho silver springs up front with 50wt oil, kyosho blue springs at rear with 45wt oil, running driveshafts level. Thanks. Dan |
