Default Any tips for getting grip in a sports hall?

Just wondering if anyone had any tips for getting the best grip in a gym sports hall.

I'll just purchased a new set of schumacher mini spikes (yellow), and I have some foam inserts (medium), will it be better with the foam inserts or without?

Obviously I'm assuming a low center of gravity would help?

there's a little bit of carpet at the start of the straight, but the rest is mostly like a sports hall type stuff.

I find that softer works better. I race on a smooth shiney concrete in a shooting hall and I have Associated black springs on the back of my 4wd, and green springs on the front with yellow mini pins all round and new work just as well as the worn. 2wd silver front and green on rear. But youll also need to be more smoother on the throttle to get the results.

You could try schumacher yellow full spikes? They seem to have lots of grip on Sports hall surfaces!

I'm by no means an expert, in fact I'm pretty feeble at off-road racing, but I've raced in a few different sports halls over the years with both buggies and buggies

No two surfaces are consistent, depending on what they are made of or what they have been cleaned or prepared with, and even the ambient temperature can make a pretty big difference between either no grip or satisfactory grip.

Grip comes from tyres. If there are no carpet/grip sections, yellow full spikes and minispikes seem to work best - all I can suggest is to try them and see which are faster. If the floor grip is very high, minipins can have the edge. I can't give any definitive answer on inserts, I've only ever run them with the "normal" inserts people would use outdoors, but I would be wary of running without as the tyre could collapse on itself.

With setup, "balance" is the most important thing. Running soft settings for a perceived increase in grip has never worked for me, it makes the car sluggish to change direction, and can even reduce grip at the limit. I've always preferred the typical high-grip UK setups to anything else.

for mini pins i find with touring cars inparticular, but i asume the same applies for buggies. that if the surface is very shiny and almost sticky as such then worn minipins are your best bet , but if the surface is dull or dusty then brand new ones are just the job

21mm yellow mini spikes will work the best and be the quickest, use them with foam inserts. They will wear out the quickest as well, at our hall you get 2-3 weeks from one set with a stock motor, if your silly and have a very heavy thumb some people go through a set a night almost. Wear rate really depends on the venue, other clubs get 6+ weeks from a set.

25mm wide yellow mini spikes work really well and last alot longer, 7-8 weeks at our club but are about one lap slower than the 21mm. The 21mm are a little bit more nimble and have more grip but with the 25mm you enter the corners too quickly, scrub the speed of and still make it round. Rebelrc's setup advice is a good starting point.
