Losi Shocks on Cat SX

Hi Guys,

So who has tried this yet?

Any info would be great.

What exact shocks are they are using model number or anything.

Heard say they make the car alot better over jumps & bobbles.
Due to the bigger volume for shock oil.

Would like to try it but need to know what exact shocks are required first.

Whilst not Losi shocks, I've just mounted TRF 501x shocks onto my Cat.

My local track (dirt) is now cutting up very badly and is really rough, and I had all sorts of problems getting the Cat to handle on the weekend. Still won the 4wd Mod final, but it was a lot tougher compared to when the track was smooth

One of the Cat drivers at my local track was running Losi shocks last night.

I'm not 100% sure on how long they were but to me they just looked they came straight of the regular 2wd Losi buggy.

His car was definately better with them on. I ran my Cat with the Tamiya shocks but broke a servo before I got the chance to see what they were like

What he said!

Shocks coming straight of Losi XXX fit quite well the CAT SX. Just put Schumacher ball ends on shock rods (long + 2mm cut on front and short on rear).

I can't say if Losi shocks are better than Schumacher ones but I just prefer to run them 'cause I'm use to chose piston and oil on Losi scale. On the other way Losi shocks provide more shock travel than the shock coming in the box.

Well i managed to get some shocks now.

Got two full car sets off the XXX4G.

What pistons are you running & springs, i will be running mainly indoors.
Whats ideal starting point with shock oil.

The reason i want to try them because they have slighty better volume than Schumacher ones.
My thoughts are the schumacher ones are not very good, i had bad threaded cups. Had to replace & i cannot get on with them building the shocks.
The step by step guide from JE Spares website is fantastic but i always end up with so much air in them given up

Anyway back to the shocks, will let you know what my thoughts are next week.
Cars in bits at the moment currently having strip & re-build

Running indoor, I would recommend as starting point:
- 40WT/Blue pistons/Pink springs
- 45WT/Pink pistons/Blue springs

Regarding the link you have posted, the shocks mounted on rear seem to come from Tamiya 501X

Im able to build and keep the rear Schumacher shocks for my cat air free, but does anyone else notice how high the piston is at max compression in the front shocks? without a limiter (oring) on the shaft, and the stock ball cup screwed on fully, the piston practically pokes out the top of the shock body. With a 2mm oring on as a limiter, it is a little better, but still way close to the top of the cylinder, and at full compression Im sure the piston hits the bladder and is likely what causes the tearing.
I dont see how these shocks could be built to stay air free. Yes, I've been through the guide at the JE spares site. It's impossible to cover the piston with oil because the piston is about even with the top of the body at full compression and thus sucking air.
Maybe Im missing something, if so please chime in

SF bay, you race at NorCal?

Ive never had a issue with my cat shocks. 100% air free, smooth as butta!

Yep. Haven't been able to make it there on a sat. for racing, but yes, Im there a lot just practicing on weekdays.
So far I haven't seen any CAT's other than me-you race there?
As far as the shocks, I had a hard time with the fronts, rears excellent.
Im running the cut bladders in front now, which seems to allow more/higher oil level and that seems to keep the piston covered up better, thus keeping the air out.
