So I am dragging my Schumacher Cat 2000 up to date on the electrics.
Can anyone suggest a Brushless ESC & speed controller? I currently run either a 13x2 or 14x2 brushed motor, so I am after a brushless that will give me a similar speed. (Don't want to go to fast spare parts are hard to find ![]() I am also running 5000nimh batteries at the moment so I would like an ESC that runs nimh and lipo as will probably buy Lipo later in the year or next. I have been advised that I should be looking at sensor motors as they are better than sensorless. Any help / advice would be much appreciated. |

17.5T brushless is around the old 27t brushed and 13.5T brushless about the old 19t brushed. So you are probably looking around the 9.5T-10.5T range for those motors.
Brushless work better with Lipos and most brushless ESCs work with Lipos. Yes run sensored. 10.5T or 13.5T brushless may be better as some vintage classes have motor limits and you may want to race it ![]() |

I run at Bury think its a 10.5T limit on the vintage cards so will look into that. |

Can’t comment on the motor but that esc is a bargin, good solid and reliable. Only difference between that and the Hobbywing v2.1 that I can tell it the lack of adjustability as it has no ‘turbo’ feature in the firmware but it may be possible to flash it with a different firmware if needed. I ran these in my kids cars for ages with zero issues and still have them as spares.
