Hi all,
Joined the other day, decided to get back into club racing. The last time i had a Kyosho inferno 10 so yeah a few years ago. Just picked up a Schumacher cat K1 aero off of eBay, Quite a few upgrades with it. I need help with a motor setup, the track here is outside only and plenty of dusty sections and usually wet grass. I'm looking for something that will give smooth control and not flat out attitude I'd rather learn to drive the thing again before going for it. That said, I have been looking at Orion vst pro motor, Orion R10 esc and battery wise i'am unsure, the car comes with three chassis incl the forward motor option which its sitting in at the moment. Still waiting for the car to arrive. The specs are as follows. In fact here is the full run down. Schumacher Cat K1 Aero 1/10th Off Road 4WD Rolling Chassis (No electrics) Absolute Top Specification Car maintained at any expense and run successfully for a full seasons racing. Comes with the following option parts over the standard kit... • Forward Motor Conversion (Carbon Fibre Chassis) • Normal Kit Carbon Fibre Chassis • Optional Alloy Chassis • Front Alloy Yokes • Front Alloy Pivot Blocks • Rear Alloy Pivot Blocks • Gear Diffs Front & Rear • Alloy Transmission Housings Front & Rear • Rear Alloy Hubs • Newly Fitted AVID Bearing Kit • Cougar SV2 Rear Wishbones Also included in the sale are the following items... • Professionally Painted Bodyshell (New) • 2 Sets of Big Bore Shocks • Core RC Spring Set • Spare tuning parts (Roll Centre Adjusters, Anti Rollbars etc) • Numerous sets of Wheels & Tyres • Many New in pack spares (see photos) Any help would great. Kindest regards Adam Last edited by Batfish; 20-08-2015 at 11:27 AM. Reason: Spelling mistake |

Welcome back to RC. I returned last year after a 25yr lay off.
However, I couldn't specifically see a question in your e-mail? If you were just generally getting a feel for the electrics, then certainly Orion stuff is good and if you get anything above the basic spec you will be able to programme the ESC to give you smooth control for the slippery stuff. I use Speed Passion, but Orion stuff is good

I think the question is what motor to get to learn how to drive again......
TBH, I'd be looking at something in the 8.5-10.5 range. Start off with all the toys turned off. Keep adding boost and turbo until motor temps are silly, then upgrade to a "proper" motor, lower turn than 8.5. And start the process again. You'll need an ir temp probe, and a selection of pinions. Second hand motors, or hobby king will see you right to start with. Might also be worth downloading a couple of setup sheets from petitrc and setting the car up sensibly for the track you are using. It's quite possible that the seller has either been driving high traction or carpet, or has just thrown the car together to sell (shocks and diffs not set up properly). Having a good motor won't help if the car won't go in a straight line. |

Hi Matt,
Say I go for a 10.5T Would i be better to invest in a say a top spec esc 160amps now rather having to change out later? Boost/Turbo?? I've only ever used Nitro in the past bud. New technology and a learning curve this electronics. |

If you've got the cash, get a better one. Rather than one you'll be pushing to 10/10ths all the time.
I'm using Speed Passion Reventon Pro, which will do all I want and more. Boost and Turbo describes how the ESC adds the timing to the motor. You can have fixed (done mechanically by moving the end bell, or electronically by advancing the timing, it's the same amount throughout the rev range) boost increases timing through the rev range, faster the motor goes, the more timing it adds, some ESCs you can put variable or sloped "rules" in place. Turbo adds the timing after a time delay at wide open throttle, i.e. after 0,2 sec at WOT, start adding 1 degree of timing per second. There are lots of variables and versions depending on your ESC , so probably best to buy one, read the manual then start asking questions. You're unlikely to buy a bad one, as there aren't many left. |

Personally if your new to electric its easier to just buy a 6.5 motor and not worry about boost and turbo. This will be quick enough while you get to grips with the car and can take boost and turbo later if needed.
Even now I still spend half my day playing with these settings where as a "normally aspirated motor" is plenty fast enough for now. If it's too quick you can just turn down the epa on the throttle to suit. If you find you need more speed then add boost/turbo afterwards My lad who's 8 runs a 6.5 unboosted on 80% throttle and its plenty quick enough for him and if he gets to that stage where he needs more than 100% the the boost option is available with out changing motor
