Default I POD Touch and BT Home Hub

Got myself a 2nd gen i pod touch last night, tried to connect to my BT Home Hub managed to enter the WEP key so it has recognised the connection but when clicking on safari/itunes it says cannot connect to the internet!

Anyone had similar problems or anyone know any solutions!

Thanks
Paul

Has it got an ip address? Why are you using WEP and not WPA?

What ip? 169.xxx....? Or 192.xxx.....?

WEP is hexadecimal, WPA can be words, which do you use?

Whats ssip? lol

SSID is the network name

WPA/WPA2 is the way the network is secured. If you set WPA you can choose any word you want for the security password to the network. i.e. oople.

WEP is hexadecimal, which means the password will be: 1jk4k5i9e9w8qj etc etc.

WEP is superseded now, i wouldn't use it, WPA is much more secure.

subnet mask is 255.255.0.0 bt says it 255.255.255.o i pod wont let me change

That IP address doesn't look right to me, try setting the IP address of the iPhone to 192.168.1.250, subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and default gateway 192.168.1.254 leave the DNS as 192.168.1.254

In windows go to go run (or in vista hold windows key and press r) - type cmd

ipconfig in the command window

The default gateway is your gateway + DNS, it will also tell you your subnet

169 is a private address, it's not been given an ip by your router.

You don't have a domain, your on a residential network, well unless you built one, but you wouldn't....

Do laptops connect properly? I would suggest trying it elsewhere first to proove it's not a problem with the Ipod or Router.

right bit of an update for you!

Tried to log on to works network today but couldnt get the password so that was a failure!

However stopped of at the local mcdonalds on the way home and picked up signal clear as day in the car park and was able to connect!

So seems the issue is with BT allowing the ipod to connect to websites as the hub is connected to BT

Are you sure the network isn't in the list at home? One way to test it changing your SSID (network name) and trying to connect, this will mean all other devices on the network will need to be re-setup.
