Which transmitter, ESC & motor????

Hi All,

After restoring a few old cars I used to race 20 odd years ago I think I have got the bug to return and have another go at racing. Things have changed a bit since my last indoor meeting.
I have always liked the Schumacher kits so I think my mind is set on either the cougar SV2 or the KF but what I need help with is which stick transmitter + receiver is suited to a returning racer and also what ESC + motor (brushless) would you recommend for indoor racing?

I don't really want to spend the earth on the most up to date all singing/dancing equipment until I get used to racing again. Once I gain more experience I can upgrade equipment in the future, just need something to get me started.

Your help with this would be very much appreciated

There are so many options I know it is hard to narrow it down.
I also came back to rc last summer after a 25+yr lay off so I will give the advice I was given.
Motors and ESC - I was advised to go for a Speed Passion reventon combo. Easy to use, smooth and motor doesn't need to be soldered in - you can simply use the push in plugs (making it easy to switch motors). Others will say the push plugs give a risk of popping off, but I've never had that. Usually for a 2wd a motor somewhere in the 7.5-13.5 turn range will be quick enough. Speed Passion is widely available
You can use hobbyking website as they have some very low cost electrics which are good by all accounts. Website can be bewildering

For the radio it depends on sticks or wheels - I know you said sticks so I can't help too much as I'm a wheels sort of chap. I use Absima radio gear - again it is pretty low cost but other than the basic model, it offers plenty of settings to adjust the driving characteristics of the car. Exponential on throttle is very useful as it can make acceleration smoother and easier to drive on different surfaces.

But you will probably find you will get a breadth of differing advice...

Thank you for the reply. I have just had a look at the Speed Passion Reventon combo ESC's and from what I can see there are three different specs, The Reventon-S, R & Pro models. I guess the Reventon-S would be the one most suited to my needs?

While searching for the ESC's I came across this Transmitter & receiver kit (Core RC Code 2.4GHz 3-Channel FHSS LCD Stick Combo ) Would this be suitable or do I need to set the bar a little bit higher?

i went for the Reventon R model when i first got back in to racing last year as i think i remember it had a slightly amp rating. i bought a Reventon R with a 9.5 motor combo and stuck it in a 4wd and it was fine for me. the plugs were also nice and tight and didnt pop off the motor.

for the radio set you can't go wrong with the sanwa gemini x fantastic radio set,and compare to the core rc set which can be very hit and miss.
also speed passion motors are very good and nice and cheap
