Need a little help

Hello everyone,

Well I finally bought a 1/10 4wd BJ4WE, very cool car. I just have a few questions. First do you run a servo save on the steering servo? And if you do what type of saver is it? Second, I will be running a GTB w/6.5 motor. What should the gearing be? It came with a 78 spur. And where do you guys mount the ESC, behind the motor or on the other side of the motor. Sorry if these questions have been asked before. This is my first 1/10 4wd buggy.

when i ran a bj4 i run the esc on other side from motor and i didnt run a servo saver but did use a metal geared servo as for gearing im not sure RICH LOWE on here is good working them out hope this helps

I run my car without a servo saver, so long as you have a good metal geared servo it will be fine. I run a KO 2343 (with plastic safety gear) and the servo horn breaks before the servo gears strip.

Assuming your Novak motor is sintered I'd start on a 18t pinion with the 78t spur, if it's a bonded rotor drop down to somthing like 15/78.

I've run the ESC on both sides of the car and didn't really notice any difference where it was. I run mine behind the servo as for me thats where it fits best, the motor wires run under the topdeck to the motor which means I have to unsolder them to get the slipper out - but it's much neater this way

Well i was hoping to get a good servo for the steering but i have not found one yet so i will be using the JR 590. I know it is not the greatest, but it will get me going. I looked into the KO 2343 looks like a pretty decent servo. I will have to keep an eye out for one. I think i will go with the plastics horn on the servo. I don't think the JR 590 will handle a alum. horn.

I will check to see what type of motor i have (sintered or bonded) I bought the buggy used with the motor and ESC.

I bought a Tamiya Heavy Duty servo saver for my cheap plastic gear futaba servo and worked quite good. Steers quickly even on fake grass or carpet with tons of high bite.
I installed the speedo in the other side and seems ballanced on the air with no troubles at all.

Well I finally installed my B/L system and servo. I did change the alum horn to an associated H plastic one. I would rather have that strip out then strip the servo gears. But if I strip to many plastic ones, I to will go to the alum one.


I thought it did not look that bad when i was doing it, but now that I took a picture of it, I think I have to clean it up a little, ok alot! I will see what I can do and keep you posted.

I'm going to be running a Novak 7.5L motor on a kit spur with Lipo.
Anybody got any ideas on which size pinion i should start with?
