Default Top Gear's The Stig - unmasked at last?

Top Gear's The Stig - unmasked at last?

This is the first glimpse of the man behind The Stig's trademark white crash helmet

22 February 2008

by Stuart Milne This is the first glimpse of the man behind The Stig's trademark white crash helmet.
View the face behind the mask now
The Stig's identity has been a closely guarded secret, and only a few Top Gear insiders know the 'tame racing driver's' real identity.
This sensational photograph was taken in London yesterday and gives a clear view of his eyes through his crash helmet's black visor, but has left experts mystified as to his true identity.
Many skilled racing drivers, past and present, have been mentioned in connection to The Stig, including current F1 star Lewis Hamilton.
Ex-F1 driver Perry McCarthy exposed himself as the original Stig after two seasons on the hit BBC2 show, and revealed to Auto Trader in 2006 that “There’s a few of them [Stigs], I think…”
A spokeswoman for the BBC refused to comment on the new photos.
any ideas ??????

There are a few different people that take the role of the stig, pritty sure that Ben collins and Phil Keen have both been doing it at points.

it makes the powerboard ineffective really, different drivers in different cars.. you cant 100% say that car is definately the fastest, or faster than another car.

I have it on very good authority (from someone that knows him personally!!) that it is (or was 12-18 months ago) indeed Mr Ben collins. The first one was Perry Mcarthey - until they "killed him off".

Who ever it is, they're gonna be an ex or current GT or BTCC driver I think.

Deffo not Hill, eyebrows not bushy enough, deffo not villenueve, to tall. Clelend just looks to old through the visor for it to be him. Deffo not brundle...hes' not fast enough!!

I think Wraggy is right though, if you look at the eyes hard and close enough, they pretty much, match.

Looks like his eyes but ben collins is 6ft 1"

In the history of Top Gear there have been two Stigs. The first (black-suited Stig) was ‘killed off’ and later unmasked as Perry McCarthy – a little-known F1 driver.
Another rapid but little-known F1 driver who could be the new Stig is Julian Bailey.
Bailey made 20 Grand Prix starts but, like McCarthy, didn’t qualify for most of them because his cars were too slow. He stopped racing in F1 when he ran out of money, but he is definitely quick enough.
Cons: There are no obvious reasons why it couldn’t be him…
Williams Hill odds: 4/1

You cant realy go off how tall he is as everybody looks tall next to Hamster and everybody looks small next to Clarkson.

Which is exactly why it's kept secret, makes it far more simple to film the show if you don't have to wait around for one specific person, also doesn't make it awkward if a car company refuses to let their driver drive a prototype or something and sends their own driver down.
