Does anyone have any knowledge of the best type of solder to use for wiring up ESCs?
The solder I have been using recently is lead free, but it doesn't seem to be as easy to use as solder I have used in the past, which I'm guessing was either 60/40 or 63/37. And I have had some trouble with joints getting hot when in use in the car. I've done some reading up on 60/40, 63/37 and lead free solder but would like some specific advise relating to this application. Which is easiest to use? Which gives the best (most conductive) joints? Thanks. |

Lead free needs too much heat.
Stick with 63/37 rosin core. |

I swear by Savbit multicore solder. I've tried the silver stuff from Maplins but the savbit is much easier to use IMO - just melts and flows easier. I've struggled to get the maplins stuff to melt trackside on a cool day (using either generic 12v or Tamiya 7.2v irons).

Best stuff I've used so far is this.....
http://www.racing-cars.com/pp/Old_Ca...voc/U3107.html I've tried my dads old leaded solder (20+ yrs old) and both of maplins solder and a from a few different DIY/Electrical stores but never had much luck, even after buying a new soldering iron, this was by far the best...... ![]()
